Saint Estèphe
Not far from Pauillac and its port, Saint-Estèphe confirms his character with its earthy rustic charming hamlets.
Located and corresponding (with the exception of a few hectares included in the Pauillac appellation) to the municipality itself, this appellation is the northernmost of the six communal appellations of Medoc. The average altitude is about forty feet and floors are made of slight clay, more severe than in most southern appellations.
The appellation has five classified ‘Crus’, and the wines produced wear regional “Brand”. This enhances significantly their character, giving generally a higher acidity to the grapes, a more intense color and richer tannins than most other wines of the Medoc. Very powerful, they are excellent wines.
